FAQ
How offshore accounting actually works.
The questions clients ask most before signing off on an engagement.
What exactly is offshore accounting outsourcing, and how does it work in practice?
Your finance function stays yours — the chart of accounts, the software, the sign-off authority — but the day-to-day processing (bookkeeping, payroll, reconciliations, reporting) is handled by a specialist team working remotely, inside your existing systems, on an agreed schedule and service level.
How is working with an offshore accounting team different from hiring an in-house junior or a local bookkeeper?
You get a small team with a review layer built in, rather than one person doing everything unchecked. Work moves through the person doing it, a reviewer who checks it before it reaches you, and periodic sampling — closer to how a finance department is structured than a single hire.
Will our books still comply with UK/US/Australian accounting standards if the work is done offshore?
Yes — the team works inside your existing standards and software (QuickBooks, Xero, Oracle Financials, SAP, Sage), following the policies and chart of accounts you already use, not a different standard of their own.
What time zone do you operate in, and how does that affect turnaround on our work?
Our working hours are set to overlap with UK, US and Australian business hours, so queries and approvals don't sit for a full day waiting on a reply. Time-critical issues have a separate escalation route for anything outside standard hours.
Is our data safe if it's being processed outside the UK/US/Australia?
Wherever possible, we set engagements up on a remote-desktop arrangement — our team logs into your own systems rather than data being copied or transferred to us. Your data physically stays within your own country, on your own infrastructure, for the length of the engagement.
What data protection laws or regulations do you comply with?
Because we default to a remote-desktop setup, your data stays on your own systems and within your own country — so it continues to sit under whatever data protection law already governs you (UK GDPR, US state privacy laws, the Australian Privacy Act), rather than crossing borders. On our side, access is protected by NDAs, encrypted transmission, and access limited to your assigned team only.
What security measures do you have in place to protect our financial data?
Our standard approach is a remote-desktop arrangement, so your data stays within your own systems and country rather than being transferred to us. Beyond that: encrypted transmission for anything that does move, access limited strictly to your assigned team, and a signed NDA before any engagement begins.
Do you sign NDAs or confidentiality agreements before starting work?
Yes, as a standard step before any engagement begins — not something that has to be requested separately.
Who actually has access to our data, and how is that access controlled?
With a remote-desktop setup, access works the same way you'd grant it to any remote employee — through your own user permissions — so you control exactly what's visible and can revoke it at any time.
What happens to our data and records once an engagement ends?
Since most engagements run on a remote-desktop arrangement, your data was never transferred to us in the first place — access is simply revoked on your side, with nothing to return or delete from ours.
How do you ensure the accuracy and quality of the work you deliver?
Every deliverable passes through a reviewer before it reaches you, plus periodic sampling and audit-trail checks — work isn't sent out the moment one person finishes it.
Is there a review or quality-check step before anything reaches us, or does one person handle it end to end?
There's a built-in split: the person processing the work isn't the same person signing off on it before it's sent to you.
How do you stay current with changing accounting regulations across different countries?
Team members work hands-on inside UK, US and Australian standards day to day, across different clients and sectors, rather than learning a single country's rules once and applying them everywhere.
What's the real difference between "offshore accounting" and just outsourcing to freelancers on a platform?
A freelancer is one person with no one checking their work and no continuity if they're unavailable. An engagement here runs through a structured process — defined scope, a review step, escalation paths, and governance check-ins — so quality doesn't depend on one individual.
How do you handle segregation of duties, so no single person controls a process end to end?
Processing and review sit with different people by design — whoever executes the work isn't the one who reviews and releases it.
